It?s a kinda ?just this once, just to see how it feels? sort of thing.

The Empress Hotel is bringing live music back to its hallowed halls (or Beer Garden) this coming Queen?s Birthday long weekend (Sunday the 11th of June).

The Fitzroy-faithful will remember the Empress of old as a music venue often mentioned in the same breath as The Tote and The Corner Hotel. Prior to its closure in 2013 it hosted the likes of The White Stripes as well as an (at the time) emerging Silverchair.

This time around it?s local favourites East Brunswick All Girls Choir supported by The Shabbab.

With the appointment of Venue Manager Rory Kelaart ? previously of live music stalwarts The Espy, Laundry, Lounge, and more recently The Corner Hotel ? the opportunity was too exciting to pass up. Coupled with the new inclusion of a retractable roof over the Empress?s much-loved Beer Garden, everything just lined up.

Rory called on industry friend and long time colleague Blair Whittstadt of Possum Music to put together a line up that would suit the venues new vibe as well as impress the Empress Faithful.

Craft beer will still feature, with Mountain Goat Brewery throwing their support behind the event.
